Comparing React Native to other Trending Cross-Platform App Development Technologies!

A survey conducted by Statista reveals; “Cross-platform technologies are used by approximately one-third of the mobile app developers as of 2020. Out of the contemporary cross-platform frameworks, 42% of software developers used React Native, 39% used Flutter, 18% used Cordova, 18% used Ionic and 14% used Xamarin”.

The aforesaid data indicates the popularity of React Native framework amongst the trending cross-platform frameworks. Yet, an app creator finds it difficult to select a framework for the next app development project; due to the availability of multiple options. So, despite React Native’s high adoption rate, businesses are curious to know about where this framework stands in comparison to its competitors – Flutter, Cordova, Ionic, and Xamarin. And, to be honest, it is a smart move to analyze all the available options and weigh the pros and cons of the most popular framework before narrowing down on a single option for app development.

This article compares React Native to the other cross-platform frameworks to provide clear visibility to entrepreneurs planning to invest in cross-platform app development. But, before proceeding further; take a quick look at the language and technology stacks used by each of the contemporary cross-platform frameworks.

React native and its Competitors: Programming Languages and Technology stacks used

React Native uses JavaScript, a most popular, dynamic, and high-level programming language. React Native blends the goodies of JavaScript and the web framework ReactJS. It also permits the writing of modules in Swift, Objective-C, or Java languages.

Flutter uses the Dart language. Dart can be compiled into the native code for enhancing the app’s performance. During build creation, Dart gets compiled into the code for ARM and x86 processors (Ahead of Time) and can also be translated into JavaScript as well as support dynamic compilation through the runtime (Just in Time).

Cordova enables one to use web technologies like CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript for cross-platform app development, avoiding the usage of the native development language for each mobile platform. The applications are executed within wrappers meant for each platform and depend on the standard API bindings for accessing the data, sensors, and network status of each device.

Ionic makes use of web technologies such as JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5 for writing and running applications. The Cordova wrapper is needed for accessing the native platform controllers. Ionic’s core is written in Sass and the chief programming language is TypeScript. The usage of Typescript enables Ionic developers to detect as well as eliminate errors while code typing, and as such enhances the code quality. However, the usage of TypeScript is optional as the entire app can be written in plain JavaScript.

Xamarin uses the .NET framework and C#, a statically typed language; for all mobile platforms. A developer using C# with Xamarin can achieve the same outcome as delivered by Swift, Objective-C, or Java.

React Native Compared to the Contemporary Cross-Platform App Development Frameworks

React Native vs Flutter

  • JavaScript is an easy-going and common programming language than the lesser-known Dart. Besides, Flutter development involves a steep learning curve. So, it’s easier for a React Native app development Company to find the necessary expertise and train professionals. Also, Flutter possesses richer and more organized documentation than React Native.
  • React Native is easy to install and configure. Yarn and NodeJS would be required as Package managers when React-Native CLI is installed globally through the command line. Contrarily, Flutter installation needs additional effort – downloading the binary for the mobile platform, then adding path variable through the command line - that is complex as well as time-consuming.
  • Owing to the JavaScript bridge, React Native can render native components for every platform and hence replicates the look and feel of native iOS and Android apps. Flutter uses built-in widgets to create native-like UI and fares better in case of complex UI creation. Additionally, Flutter apps display more consistency across various platforms.
  • React Native utilizes a JavaScript bridge to interact with the native modules. The bridge tends to lag the UI because the bridge lowers rendering speed. Flutter, on the other hand, doesn’t need a bridge for this task, owing to its multiple in-built components along with frameworks like Skia engine, Cupertino, and Material Design. Hence, Flutter applications are more stable.
  • React Native enjoys a stronger community backing which is an important advantage for an open-source framework. On the other hand community support for Flutter is smaller in comparison to React Native. Find more details about differences in this blog.

React Native vs Cordova

  • React Native apps excel in performance while Cordova apps, being WebViews, are slower and lesser responsive.
  • React Native offers a speedier interaction with core components and better native UX as it renders HTML as native UI in comparison to Cordova.
  • Cordova offers more code reusability across various platforms.
  • React Native provides a finer native user experience in comparison to Cordova
  • Debugging is easier and simpler with React Native.

React Native vs Ionic

  • While React Native follows the principle of “Learn once and write anywhere”; Ionic’s theory is “Write once and run anywhere”.
  • The Ionic developers encounter an easier learning curve due to web technologies as compared to the React Native developers.
  • React Native apps are much faster than Ionic apps and also possess elegant interfaces like native applications.
  • React Native requires an emulator or real mobile device for code testing whereas the Ionic code can be tested using any browser.

React Native vs Xamarin

  • Both are open-source platforms but Xamarin is free only for small firms and individuals.
  • React Native offers some built-in components like buttons and text inputs that are partially adaptive. These components have to be rebuilt in case of advanced features. But, Xamarin. Forms provide a complete cross-platform toolkit having native UI components for Android and iOS that are compiled into platform-specified UI components.
  • React Native boasts of better community support while Xamarin enjoys greater code reusability.

Bottom line

I hope the comparison of React Native and its contemporaries was enlightening and will assist the businesses planning to develop cross-platform apps to decide on the best cross-platform framework that suits their needs.

Significant Role of IoT in Revamping the Manufacturing Sector!

By 2021, the global spending on the Internet of Things is forecasted to cross $1.4 Trillion, as per the reports generated by a reputed online portal- Information Matters.

One more report by Statista, another famous market research portal, depicts that the market revenue of IoT in 2017 was $100 billion and by 2025, it will cross $1.6 trillion.

These figures are huge and growing at a fast pace due to the usefulness of IoT in various industrial sectors. The transparency, real-time visibility, automation, smart data insights, and much more that IoT offers, have helped sectors like manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, supply chain management, agriculture, etc. to become more efficient and profitable.

This blog-post focuses on the significant ways how IoT app solutions have influenced the manufacturing sector and helped companies accelerate productivity, reduce costs, enhance product quality, and deliver on time. But before getting started, let us quickly look at the challenges faced in this sector.

Challenges in the Manufacturing Industries!

  • Stronger demand for customization
  • Rising customer expectations
  • Concerns regarding employee safety
  • Inability to develop high-quality products
  • Slower time to market
  • Complexity in the supply chain on a global level
  • Data interoperability issues while migrating from legacy systems

IoT in Manufacturing Industries!

Maintaining Product Quality

During production, identifying defects and inspecting process flows, etc. is essential for maintaining the best possible quality of products. Implementation of IoT helps in the identification of defective products and also helps monitor the process cycle. This data allows the managers to take proactive manufacturing decisions, thereby preventing quality issues and thus, maintaining the brand value by developing high-quality products.

Smart Asset Monitoring and Management

If carried out manually, asset tracking can consume a lot of time and there are high chances of errors or missing data at times. But with IoT devices and technologies like Barcode, RFID, NFC, etc. traditional methods can be replaced by smart tracking methods. It helps to gather real-time accurate data from assets like a crane, machines, smart totes, smart shelves, equipment, etc. It gathers data like their locations, their quantity, their movements, etc., and this data is sent to employees through IoT app solutions for utilization.

For implementing asset tracking, every asset in the company is labeled with an RFID tag that acts as an asset identifier. Every tag comes with a unique ID and whenever an asset moves in or out of a defined area, the tag is scanned and records are saved on the system for the concerned employees to use this data. This helps the manufacturers achieve asset visibility and accountability while saving a huge amount of time for employees.

Monitoring Employee Safety

Workplace safety in sectors like oil and gas, transport, mining, and other manufacturing companies is critical for a healthy environment in the company. IoT sensors, wearable devices, RFID, etc. play a significant role here. The safety teams can rely on IoT-based systems to identify sudden or unknown safety risks to take the required measures proactively. Such efforts will also help to reduce compliance claims and costs associated with the risks.

In several companies, workers are provided with RFID tags and wearable devices to keep monitoring their locations, as well as data like temperature, heart rate, galvanic skin response, etc. This data is relayed to the cloud to identify any unusual patterns like fluctuations in the heart rate, sudden vertical movements, overheating effects, etc., and used for preventing the workers from any threats or injuries.

Remote Control and Outsourced Operations

Centralized supervision is possible with IoT systems and several giants in the manufacturing sector are using them. Vital data can be collected through distant control and it provides intelligent insights into the actual production field. Thus, IoT enables monitoring the workflows, controlling the switches of the machines, and thus, ensuring safe automated production.

Also, in case a company sets up their manufacturing company in a different state or city, it is vital to maintain the same product quality. In this case, too, the remote controlling ability of IoT systems can be brought to use. These methods help the manufacturers keep an eye on the efficiency of the products in real-time from a distant location.

For example, COREIoT Workforce Management Solution is a turnkey project that provides advanced tracking and monitoring facility thereby ensuring complete visibility of the workforce in the organization.

Predictive Maintenance

A study by Deloitte says that IoT-based predictive maintenance solutions can reduce maintenance costs of the factory equipment by about 40% and by 2025, it can generate an economic value of $630 billion per year. It is obvious from these numbers why IoT is being adopted by countless businesses for maintenance.

It is of utmost importance for the companies to track the abnormalities in the machinery or monitor any machine failures, well in advance. In case these are not tracked beforehand, they can cost a fortune to the company. In this scenario, predictive maintenance with IoT or Conditions Based Maintenance (CBM) comes into the picture. IoT sensors can be employed to continuously monitor the actual conditions of the machines and send the data to IoT- applications. As a result, any signs of machine failure can be detected in advance by the concerned staff and its maintenance can be scheduled accordingly; thus saving the company from huge monetary losses in the future.

Inventory Management

IoT-powered inventory management solutions can help track and locate products/equipment/raw material from large warehouses in a very short time. These solutions help the manufacturers to ensure constant visibility into locations, quantity, and statuses of the inventory, automatically track them and send reports to the mobile apps or company systems, and properly optimize the time between the order and delivery of the inventory items. It minimizes inventory out-of-stock situations, as it helps to re-order the inventory at the appropriate time.

Thus, IoT simplifies inventory management and does it with higher accuracy while saving vital time for the company.

Final Words:

Maciej Kranz, Vice President of Strategic Innovation, Cisco quoted, “[Leading manufacturers] are getting ROI primarily from applying IoT for connected operations, remote operations, predictive analytics, and preventive maintenance.”

As said in this quote, several firms have been radically transforming their operations and improving their bottom line with IoT app solutions. By successfully integrating the right IoT applications, manufacturer scan resolve complex challenges in the sector, and thus, serve their customers in a better way. Owing to this, the industrial sector is witnessing a rising number of IoT application development companies and smart IoT app developers all over the world.

Angular 10: The noteworthy Features and Modifications

Angular 10 updates

Angular, the TypeScript-based, JavaScript-compiled, Google-developed framework, has been prevalent in the software industry since 2009. Over time, this framework has proved highly efficient for developing intuitive and dynamic applications as required by diverse industrial sectors. Consequently, most businesses these days prefer Angular for app development. As such, increasing demand for Angularjs app development services has been observed globally. And this is obvious because, since the inception of Angular, it has come a long way releasing several advanced versions successfully in quick progression. AngularJS is known to be its first version and later, Angular 2, Angular 4, Angular 5, Angular 6, Angular 8, and Angular 9 were released. Recently, on 24 June 2020, its latest version- Angular 10 was released in the market. So let us explore this update in detail.

Angular 10 and its Value Offerings

Angular 10 update looks quite smaller than its previous versions but is an effective attempt of the Angular team to keep this framework relevant and up-to-date. This time, they have emphasized more on improving quality, ecosystem, and tools rather than new features. Every Angular App Development Company must be well versed with the top updates of this version. The noteworthy updates are as follows:

Angular 10 features

CommonJS import Warnings

CommonJS was originally meant for designing the server-side modules and not for reducing the production package size. When the AngularJS app developers make use of dependencies bundled with CommonJS, it results in larger code bundles and ultimately slow performing applications. But after this update, the developers will automatically be notified in case a CommonJS module pulls into your build.

New Date Range Picker

The new date range picker is another update in the Angular UI Material component library. The components mat date input range and mat date picker range can be used for using this range picker.

Optional Stricter Settings

Angular 10 comes with a stricter project set-up for the creation of a new workspace using “ng new”. Activating the flag- “ng new-strict” can initialize the new project just with a few settings. These settings enhance maintainability, enable the CLI to optimize the app functions in an advanced manner, and also help to identify the bugs well ahead of time. Also, the “strict” flag reduces default bundle budgets by up to 75%, changes template type checking to Strict, it selects strict mode in TypeScript, allows advanced tree-shaking to configure the app as free of side-effects, preventing declarations of type any by configuring linting rules.

Updates in JS Ecosystem

The Angular team has made a few modifications for keeping the framework synchronized and up-to-date with the JavaScript Ecosystem. For instance, TypeScript is updated to TypeScript 3.9, the static analysis tool for TypeScript- TSLint has been updated to v6, and the runtime library for TypeScript- TSLib has been updated to v2.0. They have also upgraded the project layout. There is an additional tsconfig.base.json file as well which provides enhanced support to the way build tooling and IDEs resolve type and package configurations. Due to these updates, every AngularJS app development company can leverage these functionalities to the fullest for architecting responsive, user-friendly, and customizable apps and other software projects.

Bugs Resolutions

The Angular team has focused more on problem-solving during this update. They have worked with the community and made bigger contributions this time as about 700 issues were completely resolved considering the overall framework components and tools. The issues of ranges in the parser, Terser Inlining Bug, errors created due to migration when the symbol does not exist, etc. were fixed. Additionally, 2,000 more issues were touched.

Advanced browser Configurations

Browser configurations of Angular have been updated so that the new projects can exclude less used as well as older browsers like Internet Explorer 9, 10, Internet Explorer Web, etc. The Angular app developers can add the browsers that need to be supported in the .browserslistrc file, for enabling ES5 builds and differential loading for browsers.

Some Deprecations

In Angular 10, several unimportant sections have been removed. For example, the Angular Package Format doesn’t include FESM5 or ESM5 bundles anymore. This saves about 119MB of install- and download- time, while running yarn or npm install for the libraries and packages in Angular. Since any down-levelling for supporting the ES5 is performed at the end of the build process, these formats aren’t needed any longer.

Also, WrappedValue is deprecated. Probably, it will be removed in v12. WrappedValue was useful for triggering change detection even if the same object instance was emitted or produced. When WrappedValue is utilized, there is a performance cost and this functionality is useful in relatively rare cases. As a result, the Angular team may have decided to drop it.

Additional Features and Updates

  • The team has added a program-based entry-point finder- EntryPointFinder in Angular version 10.  This is supposedly faster than DirectoryWalkerEntryPointFinder.

  • A compiler interface has been introduced during this update that covers the actual ngtsc compiler. With the use of the project interface, the language service-specific compiler can manage several Typecheck files while also building Scriptinfos as needed.

  • In Angular 10, the team has removed Autocompletion from HTML entities like &amp, due to certain performance issues and problematic value.

  • It is now possible to configure Async locking timeouts which adds support for the ngcc.config.js file. This sets the retryDelay and retryAttempts options for the AsyncLocker.

  • The team has also made type-checking performance enhancements to the compiler-CLI.

  • Angular version 10 supports the merging of several translation files. Before this version, only a single translation file was permitted per locale. Now it is possible to specify multiple files per locale for the users and with the help of messaging ID, the transactions from every file will be merged.

  • For performance improvement, the Angular team has made computation of basePaths lazy, so, the work will be performed in TargetedEntryPointFinder only if required. Before this version, the basePaths got computed as and when the finder got instantiated even though the entry-point was already processed. This was a waste of effort which has now been handled.

  • Urlmatcher’s type now indicates clearly that it can always return null.

  • Improved performance due to a decrease in the size of the entrypoint manifest and implementing a caching technique in the manifest.

Final Verdict:

With incredible features, some removals, and some modifications, Angular has enriched itself and become all the more powerful. Owing to features like data linking, reusing of web elements, tooling, etc. along with Google’s vibrant community support, the popularity of angularjs web app development and angularjs mobile app development has exponentially risen.

Well, React enables one to architect engaging as well as interactive web and mobile apps. Needless to say, businesses have leveraged the ReactJS framework to boost profitability and gain a competitive edge over peers.

This write-up gives you a peek into the reasons why React is preferred over other contemporary frameworks and technologies. But before we dive deeper, let me introduce you to this framework.

ReactJS in a Nutshell

React JS; also known as React; is an open-source, front-end, JavaScript library for creating UI components or user interfaces of web and mobile apps. Coined by Jordan Walke, a Facebook engineer, the ReactJS library came into being in 2013 and is considered to be a one-stop solution for crafting simple, scalable, and speedy frontends in web apps.

The most significant ReactJS features are listed below.

·         Native libraries are available to assist in developing the react architecture for native apps.

·         JSX is used as an alternative to the old JavaScript version. JSX renders components by using HTML tags. This is done by converting the HTML syntax into JavaScript calls.

·         The presence of a virtual DOM equips React to efficiently deal with frequent changes. How? Due to the presence of an in-memory cache, whenever any change occurs in a React app, only the components that change are rendered instead of the entire page.

React-induced Success Stories

Check out how React has enabled several biggies to reach new heights of success.

·         The latest and most stable version of WhatsApp has utilized React to enhance its UX.

·         Facebook has integrated React in its app code as well as its mobile app.

·         Netflix has benefitted from React’s modular structure, better speed, and improved runtime performance.

·         React has helped Instagram to provide versatile features, accurate and advanced search engines, etc.

Reasons to opt for ReactJS for Front-end Development

Ease of Learning

React offers an easier learning curve. Also, documentation is easily available in comparison to its counterparts like Vue and Angular.

Coding Benefits

Simplified Coding: The presence of JSX simplifies the entire process of coding. Moreover, JSX eases out the process of rendering sub-components and also provides shortcut methodologies to define the code. This results in the creation of a cleaner code.

Code Stability: React follows downward data flow to make sure that whenever any change is made to its child structure the parent structure doesn’t get affected. So, when an object is modified, a ReactJS developer needs to change its state and make necessary alterations in the code so that only a particular component gets updated. For this reason, the structure and data flow imparts more stability to the code and ensures that the app performs smoothly.

SEO-friendliness

The success of an application greatly depends on its SEO (Search Engine Optimization) score. For securing a higher SEO ranking on Google, the page loading time of a website or app has to be less and the rendering speed has to be high. Usage of the React libraries lessens the page loading time considerably resulting in higher SEO ranking as compared to other frameworks.

Effortless Migration

As ReactJS is wrapped into a single module, engineers can effortlessly integrate it into an existing framework without hampering the current workflow. Therefore, it facilitates migration.

Enhances Developer’s productivity

React Developers can reuse the components very easily that allows redeploying digital objects. Developers can add components such as text fields, buttons, checkboxes, etc, and then enclose them in the wrapper component that is enclosed further in the root component. This results in better code maintenance and expedites the process of application development.

Availability of Handy Toolset

Businesses can utilize the goodies of a technology stack only if they use it correctly. To ensure correct usage, Facebook, React’s creator, has integrated some indispensable Chrome dev tools and React dev tools into this framework itself. These tools assist React developers to observe component hierarchies, discover the parent and child components, and inspect the current state of props as well as components. Click here to gain insights into the React Native debugging tools.

Easy testing and Debugging

Debugging becomes easier with ReactJS as the process of data flow to its components is one-way and takes place from one single point called Dispatcher.

Additionally, ReactJS views act as the functions of a state and this can be effortlessly manipulated. As a result, testing ReactJS applications becomes super-easy.

The Presence of a Strong Community

React boasts of a strong community comprising 1,331 regular contributors and has gained 136, 079 GitHub stars. Endless tutorials are available for developers as Free React tutorials are regularly updated on YouTube and the internet in the form of videos, articles, blogs, etc. Furthermore, React experts provide reliable solutions to solve queries and doubts via QA sites such as Quora and Stack Overflow.

Final Words

By now, you must have realized the extraordinary potential of the React framework in crafting profitable applications. So, consider hiring React app development services for your next project to ensure a bright future for your business.

So, this blog is going to shed light on various features of an event app and help budding event planners, start-ups, or even entrepreneurs who already have an event management business to create a customized event management app or comprehensive software. So, let’s commence.

List of Must-have Features of a High-end Event Management Software!

Event Registrations and Ticketing

Ticket selling generates good revenue and so, the event app or software must be integrated with this feature. The event management software must provide an easy and prompt way for the attendees to register for the events, and book tickets. Also, the ticket prices or other fees should be transparent and visible clearly in the software for the attendees. The software should even allow the users to book particular sessions in case the event consists of several sessions. If there is limited seating available for any event, that should be displayed clearly in the software. Also, the software should enable event managers to list their event tickets easily from the backend.

Ticket Validation and Ticket Customization

Easy validation of booked tickets too is vital for event managers. The event managers should be able to simply scan and validate the tickets of the attendees in the least time during the events. Thus, they can avoid long waiting queues before the event starts and avoid messy situations.

Ticket customization is yet another feature, which isn’t a must-have but will help you look different and creative than your competitors. The event management solution should have the feature to customize the ticket designs as per the event theme. For instance, if it is a Christmas Party Event, then the ticket should consist of a Santa’s picture or Christmas tree. Themed tickets are much more captivating.

Text Messaging and Audio/Video Calling

One-to-one messaging, group messaging, and audio/video calling features are a must-have as both- the attendees and the event planning staffs need them. The attendees need to confirm if their tickets are booked. They may also need to connect to the event managers or the owners while reaching the venue on event days. And when it comes to the event planning staff, they need to organize several mini-events and instantly connect to their fellow team-members now and then. So, text messaging and calling features play a significant role here.

Flexible Payment Options

Offering multiple payment options is vital in an event app. These are required when attendees need to do payments, or owners need to pay to the planners, or even when sponsors do their contributions. So, integrating secure, reliable, and well-known payment gateway options like Stripe, PayPal, WePay, etc. is a smart decision.

Social Media Integration

In this digital world, social media is one of the most essential features for any kind of business, and event management is no exception. Using social media, an event management company can ask the attendees and clients to comment on, like, and share their posts, and thus boost the traffic on their pages. The company can advertise its business, promote upcoming events online, attract more clients, connect with sponsors, and much more.

Security Assurance

The risk of hacking and cyber threats can’t be ignored and so, an event management tool should ensure that all the data related to events and conferences are secured through various strategies. The software should have strong data encryption services, and follow GDPR regulations. Also, it should not provide access to any unauthorized third parties or vendors. So, the app-users must be assured that they are safe from phishing attacks, hacking activities, malicious malware, etc.

Real-time Event Analytics

Tracking the metrics like valid ticket registrations, total revenue collected, networking stats, number of apps installed, hits on app or website, conversion rates, etc. are crucial for measuring the progress of event business. These statistics help to make well-thought business decisions and accordingly take actions that enhance the business. So, the event management software must be able to gather real-time analytics and generate intelligent reports accordingly.

A Few Other Significant Features to Consider

  • Discounts, and Promo Codes: One of the smart marketing moves is to provide discounts, promo codes, and similar exciting offers during ticket sales and a good event management tool must support this feature.
  • Automated Messaging: Adding this feature to the event app will save vital time for event planners and somewhat reduce their workload. They will be able to send confirmation emails, event reminders, etc. without much effort.
  • Exposure to Sponsors and Partners: Sponsors and Partners expect proper exposure on social media channels, and also at the event venues. So, the event app should have the provision of adding the data and contact details of sponsors and partners in it, to be easily accessible to anyone.
  • Multi-lingual Support: If an event business is operating across different regions and countries, then it is essential that they provide multi-lingual support and so, the software should possess this feature.
  • Surveys and Real-time Polling: These features act as engagement activities for event attendees. By using these features, it is also possible to understand their mindset, their views, etc., and implement them to improve business.

Final Words:

If you want to become successful in the event management business, then a highly-functional event management app or software is a must-have. All You need to know about the Latest Updated React Native Architecture!

React Native, ‘the minimalistic JavaScript framework’, was actually discovered as a side-project while working on ‘React.js’- Facebook’s another important project. The principal motive behind React Native’s discovery was to find a comprehensive solution for creating cross-platform applications with native properties.

But surprisingly, this framework became way more popular than anyone thought, despite having some flaws. To make it more powerful, it was strongly backed by the huge open-source community of Facebook. Also, in the year 2018, the Facebook team announced the re-architecture of this framework for addressing all the existing issues faced by engineers during React Native development. Today, the React Native framework has become one of the most preferred choices of developers for creating modern-day SPAs and mobile apps.

React Native is still progressing and a host of React Native development companies have emerged across the globe, due to a massive demand for this framework.

So what’s new in React Native in 2020? Well, the framework is about to release its new architecture in the market. In this article, we will have a glimpse at React Native’s enhancements in 2019, the basic React Native architecture, and its new update in 2020.

Highlights of the React Native in 2019

In 2019, React Native introduced several versions with some amazing modifications and tools for React native development. Let’s explore them.

Updates in Version 0.60

  • For speeding up the development of the repositories, the team moved the main packages to distinct repositories
  • The start screen was modified and made more informative.
  • Android X was introduced. Facebook also released a JavaScript engine which was optimized for React Native, Hermes. Hermes enables Android apps to use lesser memory, faster launching and apps are much lighter in size.
  • The helper was updated too after a long time.
  • Auto-linking of the native modules, another new feature was introduced
  • CocoaPods were merged as a section of the React Native IOS project

Updates in Version 0.61

  • The hot-reloading and live-reloading features were replaced by the well-functional Fast Refresh feature.
  • Another significant feature- React Native doctor was launched in this version which ensures that migrations and updates become hassle-free.

Updates in Version 0.62

  • The team announced that Flipper, a feature that enhances the debugging of mobile apps in both- Android and iOS, will be introduced.

Overview of The Old React Native Architecture

Main objective of this framework is to help React Native developers to write JavaScript React code so that UI can be displayed correctly at the same time developer can access the native capabilities in the app. Mechanism for Android/iOS ecosystem typically looks like this:

There are 3 threads running in parallel in the React Native apps like JS thread, Native thread and, Shadow thread.

JS Thread is where the code of JavaScript is read fully and then compiled. Here the business logic of the app also resides.

Shadow Thread does the layout calculation. It makes use of Facebook’s layout engine named Yoga for calculating flexbox layout and then sends this information to the UI thread.

Native Thread does handling of the user interface. When the app needs to access native capabilities or UI needs to be updated, communication takes place between this thread and JS thread.

In this older architecture, C++ Module Bridge had to be used to make the communication possible between JS thread and Native. Every time data received from JS thread or Native had to serialized as JSON and then had to be sent to the queue and then after arrival had to be decoded. Due to the bridge that is being used for communication, there was an inherent delay in the synchronization between the native and JS code.

Highlights of Re-architectured React Native Framework in 2020

To address some of the existing issues related to the bridge in React Native, Facebook has taken the important step of going for a revamp in the architecture of this framework. There will be enhancements done in some of the React Native Modules. For instance, a Type-safety feature would be introduced for improved safety between JavaScript and Native-side code. There will be default lazy initialization of Native Modules for faster startup. Also, when calling native methods from JavaScript, there will be less overhead. It will be possible to control the Native Modules directly. Communication between different threads will improve considerably.

Also, there will be the implementation of a new thread-safe of the React Native UI layer. It will help in better native interoperability, faster startup, elevated UX of core components, etc.

Another update will focus on a new set of APIs for the initialization of React Native. It will be dependent on the new native module system and the new renderer. The overall aim is the improvement of the startup time.

JavaScript Interface- JSI will be another important update that will be useful during native development. For this, the Bridge feature will be deprecated gradually. JSI act as an enabler for TurboModules and Fabric. Now, the JS bundle can make use of any JavaScript engine and is not limited to just JSC. The JSC engine can be replaced with a JS engine like V8 for instance.

JSI helps in the following:

  • In loading JS bundle
  • calling functions between JS and C++, creating JS runtime
  • for creating and accessing JavaScript objects from C++

Also, JS can now hold the reference to C++ Host Objects and call methods on them with the use of JSI. This will ensure that the Native and JavaScript realms will be aware of each other. So we can say that complete interoperability will be possible between all threads. Also, React Native developers will now be able to handle very large panels of systems.

A concept of shared ownership is being introduced in this new architecture which allows the JS code to directly communicate with the native code from the JS thread. So the serializing to JSON the messages won’t be required to pass across and all the asynchronous issues, congestion, etc. on the bridge would be removed.

This new React Native app architecture also allows better control over native modules as developers can use native modules when the need arises instead of loading all of them at the start-up level. Consequently, there is a huge performance improvement during the start-up phase.

Do you want to design a modern-day React Native app for your next project?

Final Words:

Since its inception, React Native has accumulated several features and functionalities that have become redundant today. So, to match the needs of next-gen apps, and other software products, the framework is cleaning away the unnecessary and outdated sections. This new architecture is an attempt to make the React Native development services highly efficient to create performant apps. Some features have even been replaced by their advanced counterparts. The core modules like AsyncStorage and Webview have been gradually removed and changed into the community managed repositories.

Besides this update, the React Native developer tools will make the development process much easier and impactful. All this is going to help the React Native developers a big time in improving the overall work-flow, time-frames, development process, predictability, reliability, and much more.

The re-architecture of React Native is expected to get completed in the coming few years and the future of this technology definitely looks bright.

Key Factors to be considered by Start-ups during Mobile App Development!

You are a start-up planning to invest in mobile app development and have envisaged a superb app idea as well. Sounds great! Nevertheless, the mobile app development cost is humongous and the market is highly competitive. So, it’s important to validate your app idea completely before you proceed to develop a fully functional application. So during the mobile app planning process, there are certain questions that businesses need to survey with the users to get the interest about the app idea like as below:

  •          Do users need your app?
  •          Does your app provide a solution to prevalent issues?
  •          If so, is there an urgent requirement for the solution your app offers?
  •          If yes, then is your solution unique enough to gain recognition?

After getting the positive response for the survey, the next step is hiring the required skills to execute your project. For this, you need to pick the right set of mobile app developers or a reliable mobile app development company to build a robust, interactive, and feature-rich app that conveys your brand’s perception. However, architecting apps involve several challenges and this is more so in the case of start-ups. Therefore, I have penned down the key factors that start-ups need to focus on while developing mobile applications for a business.

But, before we move ahead, check out the probable app development mistakes that start-ups tend to commit.

Commonest App development Mistakes to avoid

  • If the wrong audience is targeted for designing the app; the app won’t get the  success that is desired no matter how outstanding it is.
  • An app should impart a similar look, feel and exhibit consistent behavior across different operating systems. But, this aspect is often forgotten.
  • Start-ups often integrate too many features in an app leading to heavy battery drainage of the users’ smartphones; resulting in app uninstalls.
  • In a bid to make the front-end of an app attractive; beginners tend to ignore the importance of creating a robust back-end which slows down the app’s interface.

What Should a StartupFocus on while building a Mobile App?

Thorough market Research

Conduct exhaustivemarket research and examine customer reviews on social mediato identify the following aspects:

·         The on-going trends and consumer requirements

·         Who your competitors are, their strategies along with success rate, and their strengths and shortcomings.

·         The unique selling point of popular applications.

·         Existing issues and gaps that need to be resolved.

After thorough research, you will come to knowthe market demand; gaps that your app can fill up;pain areas encountered by users; and mistakes committed by your competitors. Now, it becomes easy to define the app’s objective and figure out what features you need to integrate into your application for making it a bestseller. Remember not to repeat your competitors’ mistakes and ensure that you offer fresh and complete solutions. This will make your app stand out amidst the crowd.

Defining the app’s Purpose

Defining your app’s specific purpose via a confident elevator pitch is crucial for achieving success.

  •          Decide on the business goals you are headed to achieve through the app. This way you will be able to communicate your mission very easily in just a few sentences to the potential investors or the mobile app development services you plan to hire.
  •          Convey to the target audience your app’s key functionality, usability, benefits and added advantages as compared to the existing options. This will convince users to pick your application over other similar options.

 EstablishingBrand Identity and USP

Create a digital brand identity and ensure that it is maintained throughout the app you create. The next important move that will help you to establish your digital footprints and fetch a notable position amongst the leading brand names is adopting aUSP. USP or “unique selling proposition” refers to the marketing strategy of informing consumers about that unique advantage offered by a firm, service, brand or product; that makes itsuperior toits competitors. So, consider this feature to highlight the customer-centric product benefits.

App Monetization

Monetizing your app will expedite revenue generation and fetch you unprecedented profits. Check out the most trending app monetization business models.

  •          In-app purchases
  •          Sponsorships and in-app advertisements
  •          Subscriptions
  •          Paid applications
  •          Apps that are free to download but a purchase needs to be made to access specific features.

It is advisable to choose the monetization model depending on your business objective.

User-oriented Design

The way you design an app is a key factor that decides its fate. Here are the best design standards.

·         Focus on making the app design responsive asthe app would run on different devices of varying sized screens.

·         Do not clutter your design with too much unnecessary information.

·         Keep it simple as heavy designs consume a lot of device space and use up more data.

·         The user interface must be simple and easy to use so that users can effortlessly navigate through your app.

·         Follow the standards set by Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and Google Material Design.

Other Noteworthy Factors

  •          Consider factors like revenue, market share, and target audiences while finalizing the platforms and OS so that it harmonizes with your business goals.
  •          Providing offline access to some of the features of an app is the current trend and user expectation. This keeps users connected to your app even during lack of connectivity.
  •          While hiring a Mobile App Development Company; carefully examine their portfolio, work experience, past projects, proficiency, technology stacks used, etc. Also, ensure that the firm provides maintenance support post-deployment.
